Recently adoptive parents are much more likely to be able to adopt a baby or toddler from overseas than at home.Overseas adoption may be the answer for many adoptive parents, but needs serious consideration. It carries extra expense and extra red-tape. But why? Are local adoption baby is not as good as at the overseas? Do we consider about all the expenses? We are not like the celebrities , who seem to just pop into an orphanage while on holiday and come home with a baby! So,think about it and give your thought here....

I think most people would go
liowkc Posted at 18:08 on Wed, 09/17/2008I think most people would go for local adoptions if they have the choice - it is not only more convenient, cheaper and safer and there will be more contact with the child before the actual adoption process. But the reality is that demand for babies outstrip supply and so people had to look for foreign sources. The process is tedious and expensive but i guess get a good agent is paramount and making a visit to actually see a child is important.
Different cultures
admin Posted at 20:19 on Wed, 09/17/2008I think also it has to do with some parents wanting a child from a different culture so they can have a different experience from a different culture. It becomes difficult though if you're not very informed on the new culture.
Many feel they are helping
mamatee Posted at 21:22 on Sun, 09/21/2008Many of these countries offer little to no opportunity for these poor children to be adopted. They often end up living in terrible conditions until they are old enough to be put out to fend for themselves. I think that is the reason why at least some people adopt internationally. They feel that they are saving a child from years of neglect or abuse. I realize that not all orphanages in all foreign countries are like this, of course, but that is the picture that is shown to most Americans.
